How to Have a Devotional Life

Having a devotional life is essential for growing our relationship with God, growing within ourselves, and receiving everything we need daily. We can’t just rely on going to church on Sundays, we have to create our own sanctuary no matter where we are. God wants us to love him first and seek him first above all things. Just like we spend time with someone to grow closer in relationship with them, we also have to do the same for God. He wants us to put Him first in every decision, every thought, and every relationship. He wants us to get to know him because as we get to know him, we also get to know who we are inside.

Why should we spend time with him?

Spending time with God is the key to many things in life such as:

  • Being delivered out of your troubles

  • Exchanging your exhaustion for rest and peace

  • Being able to get through anything

  • Getting answers to your prayers, wisdom, and direction.

  • Getting to know yourself

  • Finding purpose

  • Receiving everything you need to get through each day.

  • And knowing a love like no other

Life can be a lot easier when you set aside time for God so he can lead you, fill you, and help you. If you don’t know how to start having a devotional life like I once was, here’s a way you can start:

30 mins Daily

10 mins - read the Bible. If you can go longer the better.

10 mins - Pause and pray or pray as you go through your day.

10 mins - take time to worship, anywhere.

Spending time with God is what gets me through my extremely busy schedules and my hard days. He gives me the power to keep going when I think I can’t go anymore. When I am exhausted he gives me rest and makes my week a lot easier. Spending time with God also healed me from different pains I endured in life and also helped me grow into who I am today. I live in freedom today because I actively chose to seek him first in my life. Although he’s blessed me with more than enough, I don’t just spend time with him for blessings. Spending time with him saved me and it’s a feeling I can’t replace.

I know sometimes it can be hard to do because there can be a lot going on in our lives and our schedules can be loaded. But if you include time with him in your schedule, your day/week will go a lot smoother. Sometimes we have to MAKE time if we feel we don’t have it.

Here’s a few tips that could help you with your devotional life, download and save it for yourself:

“Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” Matthew‬ ‭11:28‬ ‭NLT‬‬
