Keys to protecting your peace

Setting your mind and heart every morning can be so crucial in how your day turns out.

Life can throw so many things at us throughout the day and it’s very easy to lose our peace in the midst of it. Many people are living stressed, worried, and full of anxiety day-to-day. They make it seem like it’s normal or that “it's life”. We shouldn’t accept stress, worry, or anxiety into our lives but instead taking back our peace and protect it.

I saw firsthand how stress, frustration, and anxiety can not only affect your mental health but also your physical body. It does more harm than good. But I chose to take back that power within me and live a peaceful life no matter what happens. Some of the key things that helped me protect my peace were:

1. Reaffirm Your Peace

Every morning before you start your day reaffirm your commitment to keeping your peace. No matter what happens throughout the day you will not stress, worry, or become upset. You will remain at rest and keep your peace.

As you go through your day continue to reaffirm yourself. It will not be perfect but these little reminders will help you get your mind back in the right place.

2. Know Who You Are

When you truly know who you are and who God says you are, then the things people say or do to you should just brush right off. It’s important to get to know God's version of you not the world's version. People can say what they want about you but because you know who you are, it won’t stir you up. It won’t offend you or stick in your mind. When your heart and intentions are pure, that should give you peace alone regardless of how things turn out.

3. Pray Through It

I wish I can say just reaffirm your peace and you are good to go but some days can be more trying than others. Many times you have to pray to protect your peace. When you’ve done all you could to keep it and feel yourself losing it, you have to pray. God doesn’t want us to handle things on our own. We need his peace every day. So we have to make it a habit to go to him instead of carrying the burden.

4. Trust God will fight your battles

Many times when things go wrong and we lose our peace we try to fix the problem ourselves. Which either makes matters worse or doesn’t give you your peace back. We have to give our troubles to God and let him fight our battles. He sees all things and can fight our battles better than we can. I know it’s hard because we naturally want to correct people when they're wrong but it’s not worth losing your peace in the process. Remember that God is your vindicator.

When you continue to do these things and make them a habit. It becomes easier to handle conflict or anything life throws at us.

Your responses to situations change.

You're able to stay in rest mode.

Worry, stress, and anxiety does not do the body good, mentally or physically. Take care of yourself by protecting your peace. No day will be perfect but your response to protect your peace can make it a whole lot easier. You can enjoy life and its imperfections more.

Make protecting your peace a priority.

For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared Ephesians 6:15
