“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
Jeremiah 29:13 NIV
The things we commit to in life often reveal where our heart is. If you were to take a look at your life today, where does your heart lie? What are you committed to and most importantly why?
As I go through my faith journey I’ve learned that my reason why is more important than what I’m doing. My why is what drives all the things I commit too, good or bad. My why reveals where my heart is.
So what is your why?
Why are you making or not making certain decisions? Why are you behaving a certain way? Asking yourself why and being honest is the simplest way to do a heart check.
Your why should ultimately be revolved around God and his plan/purpose for your life. God wants us to commit our ways and our hearts to him. However, life can sometimes challenge our heart posture and have us doing things for reasons not intended by god. EVEN IF WHAT YOU ARE DOING IS GOOD, your heart posture matters most.
You could be working hard towards your goals which is great but why are you working towards them? To compare and compete with others? Or to serve Gods purpose for your life?
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,”
Colossians 3:23 NIV
Maybe you are believing and expecting for a prayer to be answered, which is part of having faith but are you solely focused on receiving the blessing? Or Is your relationship with God your main focus?
As humans we tend to take things in our own hands. We sometimes babysit the things we asked God for, waiting to see if he is really going to bring it to past or not. God heard your prayers the first time. Trust that he already has the healing, the business, the relationships, the baby in route at his perfect timing. He does not need your help or guidance. He is almighty to perform everything he promised.
“He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted. He provides rain for the earth; he sends water on the countryside. The lowly he sets on high, and those who mourn are lifted to safety.”
Job 5:9-11 NIV
Taking your focus off your desires does not mean God will forget about it or that you lost faith. You have to know that God will watch over those things while you look to him. God wants your whole heart not partial. Give your whole heart to him and let him handle the rest. Our only focus should be submitting to him. Let him do a work in you while all your desires and beliefs are falling into place. Giving him your whole heart means you have to trust him fully.
Trust him with your heart
Trust him with your plans
Trust him with your desires
Know that you will have everything you need and he is faithful to complete what he started.
Here are 3 daily actions that can help you keep your heart aligned:
1. Give God your full attention every day Include him in your day, build that relationship, and talk to him about the good and the bad.
2. Let your ways be his ways Let God do a work in you and mold you into the person he created you to be. Let your decisions and habits represent him.
3. Fully Commit Fully commit to the plans, the purpose, and the gifts he has set for your life.
Giving God your whole heart is the ultimate goal on this earth. Know that he will not fail you.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;”
Proverbs 3:5
